Customs Declarations

As a result of Brexit and the transition period, there will be many changes when making customs declarations, which is often due to regulations and procedures. These effects will correspond to customs declarations, as currently apply to other non-EU countries. With our experience and expertise, we can guide you through the changes to come. Declarations can be made by any person who is able to present the goods to customs or can ensure that the goods will be presented to customs.

EORI-number: Economic operators Registration and identification

The EORI number is an identification number issued to businesses that deal with the customs authorities. If your company does not yet have an EORI number, Seacon can organise this for you.

Responsibility

If you make the declaration yourself, you yourself are responsible for everything. This entails risks if you are not familiar with the latest regulations. When Seacon takes care of the declaration for you, you are still ultimately responsible and liable for its content, but Seacon will act as your direct representative, completely relieving you of any worries. You are also assured of access to the right expertise.

In-house or outsourcing?

The person or business submitting the declaration must be established in the EU, unless the declaration is for a customs transit operation or temporary importation. This means that the owner of the goods is always able to lodge a declaration, but can also choose to be represented by a customs agent, such as Seacon. The customs authorities require customs agents to hold a special permit. Seacon is in possession of the correct permits, the appropriate customs software, and highly-trained staff who are able to utilise this software in the right way and to take care of the customs declarations for you. This brings you many advantages, as you don't need to make the investment yourself! Do you often export to the United Kingdom? In that case, an Authorised Economic Operator gives you a range of benefits. Seacon has a full AEO licence, meaning that we can be of excellent service to you.
